About

Carpenters' Hall has a long history as a meeting place. It has been the home to numerous tenants in the arts, sciences and commerce, and remains the headquarters of the oldest extant craft guild in America. It was the site of the First Continental Congress in 1774 and was occupied briefly by the British during the Revolution. The Hall still has tenants and has been the site of many celebrations. Here is a timeline outlining the many events in the Hall's history.

Really cool. There's not that much here, but it's a cool building and it has been many things over the history of Philadelphia.

Best described as a hidden jewel among the treasures in the Historic District focused on Independence era history and architecture. We found this location by accident — wondered in to the main building of the three in this cluster of historic venues. The Carpenters Hall has a story to be told and the staff/volunteers on site fill the bill nicely. Some say they take up to three hours in this relatively small building — we spent about a half hour and felt like we got a good dose of the importance of this place in history.

It was a decent experience for my family. We decided to do a quick trip to visit some historical sites and it was very informative. I remember being bored with history growing up, but the guide we had made it incredibly interesting.

Another cool piece of Philadelphia history. Not a whole lot to see, but free to go inside and has a little gift shop as well. Some interesting plaques to read inside...worth checking out if in the area (which you probably are if you are seeing the Liberty Bell/Independence Hall).
