The attraction, located on Logan Square along the museum-rich Benjamin Franklin Parkway, allows visitors to come face-to-face with dinosaur skeletons, search for fossils, stroll through a tropical garden populated by live butterflies. In addition, meet live animals, historic animal dioramas featuring three continents of wildlife and even meet scientists.  A fully built Tyrannosaurus rex, one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs on the planet, welcomes visitors to the dinosaur hall. The exhibition features more than 30 species of Mesozoic dinosaurs and reptiles, including fossil castings of Hadrosaurus foulkii discovered in New Jersey in 1856.

Visitors can also climb inside a skull of Tyrannosaurus rex and dig-up fossils. In the outdoor-indoor nature interpretation center, children can touch or watch live animals, crawl in a tree trunk and examine the fossils under a microscope. Throughout the day, a large number of the museum’s animals are featured. One very key fundamental exhibition is the butterfly exhibition: this exhibition features dozens of butterflies from East Africa, Southeast Asia, Central America, and South America, traveling in a simulated tropical forest. Guests attend the different stages of the life cycle of a butterfly and let their imagination run free to discover the beauty and charm of these delicate creatures. 

Fireman’s Hall is located on the site of Engine Company Number Eight, a descendant of the Union Fire Company, founded by Benjamin Franklin in 1736. The museum is managed by the Philadelphia Fire Department, whose members serve as docents and offer warm hospitality and enthusiastic explanations of the memories hosted here. The centerpieces of the museum are surely the 10 antique fire trucks scattered throughout the building, including the first engines pulled by horses and horses. Make sure to see the exhibition on the Philadelphia “Great Fire”, where 52 buildings were destroyed on October 4 and 5, 1839.

The Independence Seaport Museum is committed to exploring the maritime history of Delaware. In 1996, the museum assumed responsibility for OLYMPIA and BECUNA, both of which are designated National Historic Sites. The museum fully embraces the Delaware River setting with River Alive! A permanent 4,000-square-foot exhibit that opened in November 2018, transforming the first floor of the attraction into a space dedicated to the water it overlooks. The exhibition examines how millions of people use the Delaware River for their water, food, and recreation, and explains to customers what lives in the river and the threats to its watershed.

Featured is The River Alive, which has a river window for a spectacular view like no other, designed by an artist and equipped with audio equipment; Citizen Lab & Fisharium, with hands-on indoor-outdoor experiences and freshly drawn river water tanks; a Nature’s Highway puppet theater; and an interactive wall of the river continuum that projects the evolution of the watershed ecosystem. Every Saturday, children can participate in Seafarin’s Saturdays with activities specially designed for them. Children (and their families) can also rent kayaks or boats built by museums to explore the calm waters of the basin and have a close-up view of historic ships. It is a valuable experience the children will love.  

Covering an indoor and outdoor space equal to half a block, the Magic Gardens in Philadelphia sparkle with creativity, urban revival and a hint of madness. Isaiah Zagar, a local artist who started paving South Street in the 1960s and never stopped, built the cement space, with bicycle spokes, bottles, ceramic chips, and more artistic trinkets. The mosaic passages of the Magic Gardens take place in the shadow and underground – and perhaps more than anything, in the mind of a dedicated and inspired artist.

Zagar has created more than 100 mosaics in Philadelphia, most of them along the South Street corridor. A walk in the neighborhood reveals not only the work of the artist but also, a geographical renaissance. Isaiah’s other incredible works can be found at The Eye’s Gallery, a Mexican folk art store owned by Isaiah’s wife, Julia. During the six-block walk to The Eye at 402 South Street, much of Isaiah’s art portfolio borders the walls and sidewalks of her favorite neighborhood. 

Olympic standards keep the Philadelphia Orchestra at the top of the best in the world: precision, balance, fluidity and sumptuous strings. It’s the perfect place to hear Brahms, Mahler, Beethoven, and Debussy get polished – and in a shining place. Sergei Rachmaninov, who played his exciting piano concerts with the Philadelphians and whose symphonic dances were composed for them, felt that the Philadelphia Orchestra was the best he had ever heard. In the Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center, excellent lines of sight include seats around the stage that offer close-ups of first-class maestros and extraordinary players that make up the Philadelphia Orchestra. Here at the Philadelphia Orchestra, you get to listen to oboe Richard Woodhams, whose magnificent tone reflects a historical lineage: the late John de Lancie, professor of Woodhams, sat in the same chair, as well as the mentor of De Lancie, the great Marcel Tabuteau, in front of him. The Orchestra is dedicated to excellence, innovation, and creativity, both on and off stage, and serves its many local and international communities by performing music, encouraging musical creation, and improving musical performance and quality of life. 

If you want to have a bird’s eye view of Philly, there is nowhere better to visit than One Liberty Place Observation Deck. Located in downtown Philadelphia, this observation deck offers 360-degree views from the summit of One Liberty Place, one of the tallest buildings in the city. The entrance to the One Liberty Observation Deck is located on Market Street, less than two blocks west of City Hall. The wickets and elevators at the top are located on the second floor of the building. In addition to the ticket booth and the elevator leading to the observation deck, the second floor also houses a gift shop with beautiful Philadelphia-inspired memorabilia. 

To get to the top of the building, follow the line that runs beneath the feet of a tall Benjamin Franklin over 900 feet up the waiting elevator. If the day is busy, there may be a wait for the elevators, so keep that in mind when calculating how much time you have to spend at One Liberty Observation Deck in Philly. The attraction has three levels: the entrance on the ground floor, the ticketing hall on the second floor and the 57th-floor observatory.

The observatory offers a 360-degree view of the city center and beyond, with opportunities to see the cityscape in all directions. In addition to scenic views, each floor includes interactive experiments and installations, including an imposing Benjamin Franklin sculpture, Philadelphia-centric listening stations, and six multilingual touch screens that allow visitors to extend a point up to 100 meters away. 

Arachnids, insects, and butterflies … oh my god! Do you like bugs and insects that have more than 100 legs? Well, even if you do not, you should still go to the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion. This museum of entomology is fun and interesting and allows you to appreciate the creatures on more than four legs! What makes it suitable for children: insects are cool!

But it’s really fun for kids to have butterflies on their heads and clothes and get a close, sometimes practical, experience with arthropods that they would not otherwise see in their own backyard. The butterfly house is on the first floor of the museum. It is a large greenhouse with various trees and plants, and of course butterflies, all around. You must watch your steps as you walk because you never know when a butterfly will land on the ground in front of you!

Through the greenhouse, trays containing fruit can be used to observe the feeding of butterflies. The pavilion is home to many species of butterflies. You can try to identify which ones you find (or those that land on you!) Using the information cards provided. By the way, one of the best assets of the greenhouse is the heat and humidity, especially during the harsh winter months. Walking through was such a savior from the outside elements!

Your kids will really enjoy the Philadelphia Insectarium Museum. There are many different species of each insect represented. The Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion is a great way to spend a few hours with the kids. Who knows, you might inspire them to become an entomologist? 

The Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest, open from November to March, attracts residents and visitors of all ages every year. It offers many special events throughout the season, as well as entertainment, meals, and drinks. When the snow melts, the RiverRink Winterfest Winter Zone is transformed into the Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest, a warm-weather edition with roller-skates, boathouse-style pavilion, children’s play area, entertainment, carnival style, drink options and events throughout the season.

The centerpiece of the waterfront experience is the Blue Cross RiverRink, the only regulation-size outdoor rink in Philadelphia. The popular Winterfest ice rink is turning into a great skating rink at the opening of the Blue Cross RiverRink Summerfest season. Tickets are available for purchase online or on site. A 200-seat bar-restaurant occupies the lodge at Summerfest. It serves delicious bites, many craft beers and summer cocktails. A game landscape and a natural game room offer children more opportunities to have fun when a break in skating is needed.

Summerfest also has a nine-hole mini-golf course right next to the ice rink. Each of the nine holes was designed by a local artist with recycled materials. For more fun, The Midway offers carnival-style games on the Delaware River waterfront. Colorful sounds and lights invade the Midway grounds, which feature a carousel and many attractions, including a 20-meter high Ferris wheel. 

Here at the Benjamin Franklin Museum, visitors discover the different roles that Franklin has played in his lifetime, including his work as a printer, scientist, diplomat and founder of civic institutions. The museum’s individual rooms reflect different aspects of Franklin’s personality and character traits, as he was known to be strategic, rebellious, curious and amazed. Dedicated to one of America’s most beloved founding fathers, the Benjamin Franklin Museum, located in Independence National Historic Park, is full of personal items, computer animations and interactive displays exploring the world of Franklin’s life and character.

The unique museum is located underground as it was built around the archaeological remains of the house. The museum has deliberately created this museum to spark discussion, to make visitors reflect on how Franklin embodied the best of the spirit of the 18th century and the relevance of his character and ideas today. This dynamic new exhibit space sheds new light on Benjamin Franklin’s contributions, not only allowing visitors and residents to better understand who Franklin was, but also inspiring future generations to imagine a bit of passion and of Ben’s inventiveness in themselves.

The individual rooms of the 20,000 square foot museum reflect different aspects of Franklin’s personality and focus on five distinct character traits. A visit to this museum will leave the visitors a deeper connection to the man whose ideas they will see will be reflected throughout the city. 

Although the US capital was moved from Philadelphia to Washington, DC, in 1800, the manufacture of coins and medals remained mainly in Philadelphia during the last two centuries. Although there are mints in Denver and San Francisco, at least half of the circulating coins in the country and most commemorative medals are minted in this building; the “P” mark on a coin indicates its origin in Philadelphia. United States Mint visitors attend ground operations, from top to bottom and behind glass panes, to be sure.

Interactive exhibits describe the many presidential and honorary memorials designed and manufactured here, as well as equipment for making ancient coins and coins, and rare and historic coinszLa Monnaie offers public tours from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 16:30 except federal holidays. Summer hours extend until Saturday. With its own display of rare and interesting pieces, the gift shop is an attraction in itself. At least half of the nation’s outstanding coins are minted in this building. 

Seeing the Phillies Game is one awesome experience your kids will find very fascinating. Founded in 1883, the Phillies Philadelphia Baseball Team is the oldest continuing franchise with the same name and city in all professional sports. The Phillies are part of the East Division of the National League. Fans can catch all the circuits, dives and all the gifts for fans – not to mention the ever-lively Philly Phanatic mascot – at Citizens Bank Park. The Philadelphia Phillies played in several parks, including the Baker Bowl from 1887 to 1938 and the Shibe Park / Connie Mack Stadium from 1938 to 1970.

The Phillies are the oldest continuous franchise, with a name and a city, in all professional sports. In 1971, the Phillies moved to Veterans Stadium in South Philadelphia, where the team hosted two all-star games and three World Series. It is also the team that won the crown in 1980. After 30 years, the Phillies bid farewell to the veterinarian at the end of the 2003 season. The team now plays at Citizens Bank Park, which opened in 2004. It may have taken 28 years, but the Phillies have once again won the World Series title against the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008. 

When the East State Penitentiary opened in 1829, audiences around the world marveled at its grand architecture and radical philosophy. The experience of reforming criminals through strict isolation other than the daily visits of the guardian and guards has quickly become a model for designing prisons around the world. Located in the Fairmount neighborhood of Philadelphia, the Eastern State Penitentiary remains one of the world’s most famous prisons, with a list of former detainees including bank robber “Slick Willie” Sutton and legendary gangster Al Capone.

At the time, the Eastern State had set the standard for penal reform, with its castle-like Gothic architecture and the Quaker-inspired belief of its founders that solitary confinement could help reformed criminals. About 300 prisons on four continents have used Eastern’s distinctive floor plan as a “wagon wheel”. The 11-acre site had central heating, running water and flush toilets, even before the White House. Today, the tours offer a glimpse of life inside the prison’s historic cell blocks through exhibits such as the restored 19th-century Al Capone cell, stories of prisoner evasions and art installations hailed by critics. 

In his original design of the 1682 city, William Penn reserved Center Square for public buildings, but it took 200 years for the square to be used for this purpose. The first town hall was located on 2nd and Market Streets, then 5th and Chestnut Streets when the Independence Hall complex was built. The current town hall on Place du Center was inaugurated in 1871 and took 30 years to complete. John McArthur Jr. was the architect and supervised the construction with the help of Thomas U. Walter.

The first floor is built of massive granite – sometimes 22 feet thick – and rests on a brick structure covered with marble. The City Hall is the largest municipal building in the United States, with an area of more than 14.5 acres. It is an architectural treasure inside and out. The public rooms are among the most sumptuous in the city. The City Council Room, the Mayor’s Reception Room, the Conversation Room, and the Supreme Court Room are the most ornate.

The exterior is covered with sculptures representing the seasons and the continents, as well as allegorical figures, heads, and masks. All sculptures were designed by Alexander Milne Calder, including the 27-ton William Penn statue at the top of the tower. Its viewing platform, accessible during guided tours, offers a panoramic view of the city.

Enjoy unforgettable bike tours in Philadelphia.  This is a very cool way for you and your kids to explore the entire city of brotherly love. When the woods call you, the Wissahickon Valley Park Trail invites you to take a bike ride or run. More commonly known as Forbidden Drive (so named because cars were banned from driving in the 1920s), the cobblestone trail follows a stream for a total length of seven miles. Although relatively flat, many dirt roads come off the trail for those looking to climb some hills or put their mountain bike to work.

Forbidden Drive is accessible by bike along the Schukyill River Trail (first half of the Kelly Drive loop to Falls Bridge, then continues straight on the path. Cross Ridge Avenue and you will see that the paved bike path continues. Follow this until you reach a parking lot, which leads to Forbidden Drive. If driving is an option, you can go to the Valley Green Inn, where a large car park is adjacent to the trail.

Pennsylvania is home to many major museums related to the transportation history of the region. Whether you want to know more about cars, planes, trains or trolleys, each of these great museums tells the story of their history. However, if you want to know more about helicopters, there is only one place to go: the American Museum of Helicopters in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Although the museum does not offer daily helicopter rides, the museum is full of interesting things to see and enough interactive elements to entertain the whole family. More than two dozen helicopters and other rotary-wing aircraft are in the hangar of the American Helicopter Museum.

The exhibits include military and civilian aircraft, but the majority is former military helicopters. Although museum tours are self-guided, volunteers are available in the space to answer any questions you may have during your visit. Many of these volunteers are used to flying and working on rotary wing aircraft, which gives them a wealth of useful information about the machines. In addition to helicopters and gyrocopters, the museum also houses helicopter memorabilia. Objects such as toys and helicopter models are displayed along the walls of the museum. There is also a very beautiful exhibition on the history of rotary wing planes in the Delaware Valley.

Inside the museum is a theater with historical helicopter images, a research library, and a superb helicopter-themed children’s playground. Clearly, there is an abundance of fun for you and the kids!  Overall, the American Museum of Helicopter West Chester, Pennsylvania, is an amazing place you sure can’t afford not to visit.  

Everyone likes factory visits, with the exception of companies that own the factories. The safety of children is a particular concern if the factory makes something that is sold to children. Not surprisingly, a visit to the Crayola Factory, once a highlight of any trip to Easton, Pennsylvania, became the “Crayola Factory”, a downtown attraction that in reality was not a factory at all. More than ten years later, the attraction has been transformed into “The Crayola Experience”, a deliberately vague title for a joyfully sweet and nontoxic place.

Crayola Experience consists mainly of a series of fun stations, some paying, which encourage children’s activities using Crayola products. There is also a small Hall of Fame which dedicates eight colors removed by Crayola and, in the cafe, the largest crayon in the world, a monster 15 feet long and 1500 pounds made in 2003 from scrap metal leftolas. Crayola recognizes its own story in the “Crayola Chronology”, where visitors can see Emerson Mosler’s paraffin-spattered shoes, which has manufactured about 1.4 billion crayons in its 37-year history at the Crayola plant.

Here is also the sweater worn by Mr. Rogers when he cast the 100 billionth Crayola crayon in 1996. The crayon is displayed under Plexiglas as a precious lunar rock. This is fun for the entire family, so be sure to give it a visit!

Though a popular sport in the region, favorable weather conditions are not always ideal, and this offers a real climbing experience for all ages. “Rock climbing is one of the best physical activities you can do,” said climbing coach Andrew Carter. “It’s a very progressive sport, because you can improve every time you climb.” The Spring Break Camp attracted dozens of climbers for five three-hour sessions.
